It has regularly been in the top five TV programmes among all British channels and has even managed to score higher figures than Coronation Street. Graham Davies appeared in 1999.Early series were centered around policeman PC (later Sgt) Nick Rowan portrayed by Nick Berry. The series was based in the town of Yorkshire and dealt mainly with the experiences of married couples who were young. Subsequent series focused more on criminal and medical storylines with greater roles for the other policeman on the show who had minor roles in the initial first season. At its peak, the show began to seem formulated with most episodes following a similar sort of storyline and became repetitive. Each episode was designed to be self contained and showed the developing personal relationships of the characters. However, the main storyline was still to do with criminal activity. Unlike Coronation Street, the setting moved on , as if in real-time, until it reached 1969 where it has now remained for the past few years.Heartbeat re-runs continue to be aired on ITV and series 1-10 have been repeated on ITV and it repeats from time to time.
